The Company which I represent has already had the honour to addrese His Britannic jesty's Legation asking
for the rotection of the interests which have illegally
suffered from the acts of the Mexican Government in prohi-
biting the landing of the passengers who arrived from Hong
Kong in ex can morte, under the protection of the Conect-
tution of the Country, and in accordance with the contract.

executed with the Thina Comercial Blanship Company Ltd.
Your Legation was pleased to take into considera-
tion this delicate matter, and initiated preliminary nego-
tiations to otain redress from the Goverment of the Re-
puhlle dr. rccorunnce with the prer 'sions of its own lave
and the universal stipulations of International Law. The
negotiations having advanced thus far, the rg rasentatives
of the fluvorment suggestod that the matter might be ar-
ranged in an equitable manner by administrative process,
and for this purpose, conferences were held with the Chief
Executive of the soyublic me well my with some of the Fecre -
taries of State, who, by renson of their corpetency, took
cognizance of the question ruised by the Company's clains.
Per this purpose, legal work was undertakon and
specific claims founded on law were duly presented, for the
violations which had been committed by the subordinate Auth -
rities and sanctioned by the Dejartment of the Interior,
acting in the name of the President of the „epublic, Last-
ly, recourse was had to private correspondence, insisting o
on some resolution, and during the time that has elapsed,
nothing had been done with respect to the just demanda of
